About Us

The stud-farm in Latvia named SIA “ZBZ” ( will be refered to as ZBZ ) has developed through the take-ower and ownership of the stable and horses that belonged to the previous agricultural company  “Zviedru Birzes Zirgi”. It is located near the village Kurmene. The foundation of the activities is due to Rūta Lindkvistere-Rasiņa. From year 2000 she has bred her horses at the stud, a place where horses also were raised in former years. As far back as around 1980 the stable was built and at that time there was a kolkhoz called “Komjauniets”. The purpose was to breed horses and to develop the sport of riding. Indeed, one can say that the stable and surroundings are well suited for the task.

Today’s horses at the stud are offspring to broodmares Rūta brought from Sweden. They descend from two different motherlines. – The Swedish Warmblood family F4 has it’s roots in Hanoverian horses. The ancestress Gakenda was imported to Sweden from Hanover around 1930. The other line, English Thoroughbred, comes from one of the most valuable Thoroughbred families number 3. Members were successfull runners and spred outside Ireland and England. Representatives are also found in France, Italy, Australia, South Africa and USA. Now there are none pure English Thoroughbred at stud, one can only talk about a motherline that descends from these Thoroughbreds. –  Rūta’s first broodmares were bought in 1983 and 1984 due to studies of available information and statistics. In years to come stallions were used with pedigrees well composed and to fit her mares, at times by artificial insemination.

From stud’s broodmares are descendents with good ability for showjumping. Regarding family F4 some offspring are in USA, six stallions were certificated, four representatives were winners at Grand Prix level. In Sweden some horses also have been suited for dressage and they came from both motherlines. Horses with near roots in English Thoroughbreds are often versatile and beautiful, in Sweden many were used to ride military. This family has left three certificated stallions.

Best horses in showjumping: Querides – he won at hight 1.50 m. in Sweden, Cor de Son won the World Championship in Lanaken for five years old jumpers in 2001, Irasir won in Russia Grand Prix at 1.50 m., KS Coradina has wins at international level 1.60 m., she qualified and took part in the FEI World Cup Final in Las Vegas 2015. Other horses worth mentioning as they have competed at high class showjumping 1.35 to 1.45 m.: Irwinds Wing ( also hight 1.60 m. ), A Spin Off, Baccaratzz, Cendrasine. – To different disciplines: In Sweden Queseron had wins in military competitions and showed obvious talant for dressage, but Quensin had the best dressage scores, Windstream xx and Corasine also had other sons in demand.

In summer 2020 the ZBZ-stud will have about 40 horses, foals included. The plan for breeding in 2020 is to give new attention to dressage but the main concern will be to breed future showjumpers. ZBZ has set a goal to raise horses with the best possible genes for highest performance in sport, sound horses that confide in people.
